Timbers are not the only thing we do!
At ‘Select Timbers’. We love all the fine and interesting uses for wood. and while targeting one thing in a cut, we always keep our eyes peeled for that perfect music or ’tone’ wood flitch. Or the right grain for veneer slicing, or aircraft and boat spar wood. When searching for yellow cedar logs for boat lumber, we look for potential temple wood.
Other oddities are always on the list too. Such as teredo worm (or ‘ Shipworm’) eaten logs . people are more frequently looking for a cool and different look, which fits the bill with natural holes in your timbers or lumber for beautifying a fire stove backdrop or a holy mantle piece. We will log or beachcomb slabs and save burls or keep ‘twisted sisters’ for decorative garden or cool pillar applications, or save old boomstick ends with rotten boom chains for any old reason like garden art.
We don’t know all the uses for wood but we’re learning, and more than a little interested. And if we don’t have that certain something that is “out there”… like a root wad that’s been worn and beaten on a west coast beach, or a warped and bent something or other, then I know a whole herd of beachcombers and handloggers on the coast who are out of work because the B.C Forest Service eliminated 200 years of west coast history in water based Handlogging over night. These guys are all out there with their eyes peeled to the beaches for this kind of stuff. So we can get it if you need it.
